Hunger Walk 2018

Mercy Neighborhood Ministries

Did you know that thousands of people in the Tri-State struggle with hunger every day? To help fight this epidemic, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries has created a team and is participating in the 2018 Hunger Walk to raise awareness and to support Freestore Foodbank and its 400 Community Partners. Anyone who joins Team MNM as a walker/runner or makes a monetary donation will have their registration fees credited toward Mercy Neighborhood Ministries’ Freestore Foodbank account. The credits will be applied at the conclusion of the event. MNM will be able to use this credit to purchase items to fill the shelves of our choice food pantry.

Every month MNM serves over a hundred individuals through its choice food pantry. Our participants can decide which foods they would like to choose within the guidelines established by size of their household. Volunteers interact with the clients while guiding them through their shopping experience. The majority of our “shoppers” fall into the senior age range of 60 + years.

Did you know that a Choice Food Pantry:
Produces less food waste
Offers a dignified shopping experience
Provides more opportunity to interact with participants
Promotes long-term food security and health
Is preferred by clients and volunteers
Allows participants to choose foods based on the USDA MyPyramid Guidance system

MNM has seen an increased need for our pantry due to the closing of the Kroger store in Walnut Hills. This closing has created a ‘food desert’ in our community. It is difficult for our seniors who have multiple health challenges, in addition, to limited transportation to get to the closest Kroger store which is located in Clifton. The need for pantries like ours and others in our neighborhood is more critical than ever.

You don't have run. This is a 5K Walk during the event. The more people who participate, the more awareness – and badly needed funds – will be generated for fighting hunger in the Greater Cincinnati area. This event is also a lot of fun, with a great After Race Party that includes food and music. With your help, we can work to end hunger in our community. Please support Mercy Neighborhood Ministries efforts by joining us on May 28th.

The need for the Community Partners supported by the Freestore Foodbank is great, but because of events like Hunger Walk, we can make a difference. Your participation will help end hunger in our community, one step at a time. Please support Mercy Neighborhood Ministries in the 2018 Hunger Walk by joining us on May 28th.
